Are you too cheap to make it up to Whistler, British Columbia? Well then lucky for you Schweitzer Mountain resort has a college weekend for students to unwind and relax as well.
College Daze weekend offers affordable chance for students to stay, eat and ride
Sandpoint, ID - The weekend of January 31st and February 1s t will certainly not be one for the books – at least not the text books. It will, however, be one that college students around the region will remember.
Schweitzer Mountain’s annual College Daze offers excellent deals in lodging, food, and lift tickets, presenting the perfect opportunity for students on a budget to close the books and conquer the slopes.
Schweitzer’s College Daze offers students not only a study break, but a financial one,” Said Tara Ketner, Schweitzer Mountain’s Marketing Coordinator. “Lift tickets are only 35 bucks with great lodging and food deals available as well! There’s no better way to recharge mid semester than with a weekend of fun and fresh mountain air.”
Yes I know this site is mainly focuses on Schweitzer and Silver Mountain but this just needs to be talked about. If you are a college student and living in the pacific northwest that enjoys snowboarding, you need to go north of the border and check out Whistler Blackcomb’s college weekend. It happens on Martin Luther King weekend in January here are some sites that will be helpful to you making arrangements.
Thinking of taking some of your 3 week holiday break and getting in some good snowboarding without the weekend lines, here are a few hotel deals for you. This is going on the assumption you are like me and well broke.
Silver Mountain:
My recommendation is the Kellogg Inn I have stayed there before and the rooms are clean and the price is right. They also have a continental breakfast, which saves some money too. However the best part about this hotel is you park your car and you’re done for the weekend. Its location is amazing literally across the street from the gondola entrance.
Schweitzer Mountain:
Unfortunately unless you want to stay at the Schweitzer Lodge you’ll have to do the 9 mile drive up to the mountain no matter where you stay in Sandpoint, ID. My recommendation is the Super 8 Motel they have college atmosphere with a lot of WSU and UI students staying there every weekend. They are also right across the street from one of the more popular bars in Sandpoint, and last but not least they have a 24 hour hot tub to relax after a long day on the mountain.
Schweitzer Mountain accumulated 305 inches of snow last season, but sadly at this point in the season there isn’t any snow yet . The good news is weather.com predicts rain/snow fall Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the upcoming week. Lets pray it stays.
Silver Mountain:
The good news, Silver Mountain has 3 total inches of snowfall this season. The bad news, it didn’t stay. Weather.com also sees snowfall in the near future for Silver predicting snow showers Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Unfortunately with Sunday predicted to have a high of 41 degrees, it is unlikely the snow will be there for long.
Hey snowboarding season is almost here, and if you’re like me and need something to hold yourself over until then I found a video today of the Stomp Games from 2008 at Schweitzer Mountain. Enjoy!
I feel the best way to start this site off is with the best snowboarder alive right now. That being said here’s a clip of Shaun White at ESPN’s X-Games.
To me, it’s about getting better every time and doing the best I can every run no matter where I am. The Olympics are going to be huge, but I don’t think the Olympics are going to make or break any rider. At the end of the day, it’s just another contest with just a little bit more riding on it. — Shaun White
